Issues for Senior Citizens

When it comes to Social Security, Retirement, and Long-Term care, we must ensure that our seniors and retirees are taken care of with the dignity and respect they deserve. Social Security is not just a program; it’s a promise we’ve made to our seniors. We must not only protect it from any cuts but also expand it to ensure that our seniors can retire with the security they’ve earned through a lifetime of hard work.

Retirement should be a time of relaxation and enjoyment, not worry and uncertainty. That’s why I believe in strengthening retirement benefits, protecting pensions, and expanding retirement savings options for all workers. Every American should have the opportunity to retire with peace of mind and financial security.

And let’s not forget about long-term care. As our population ages, the need for long-term care services is growing. We must address the rising costs of long-term care and ensure that seniors and their families have access to affordable and quality care when they need it most. This includes expanding Medicare to cover long-term care services and providing support for family caregivers who play a crucial role in caring for their loved ones.

Being a graduate of Public Health studies, I deeply understand how COVID-19 has hit people over 65 the hardest, especially those in nursing homes. These places should be safe, but many COVID-19 deaths have happened there. One way to help is to let seniors get care at home by expanding Medicaid. Mahnoor wants to build more affordable housing for low-income seniors. This complex saves energy and is a good model for others. Mahnoor also wants to protect, strengthen, and expand Social Security and Medicare. She’s fighting to make sure the rich pay their fair share and to lower the cost of prescription drugs.

  1. Expanding Social Security benefits: Mahnoor will advocate for increasing Social Security benefits to ensure that seniors can retire with dignity and financial security. She supports measures to adjust the cost-of-living adjustment formula to better reflect the expenses seniors face.
  2. Protecting and expanding pensions: I am 100% in favor of protecting workers’ pensions and expanding pension coverage to more workers. She has supports legislation to strengthen pension protections and ensure that workers receive the retirement benefits they have earned.
  3. Medicare for All: I have always been and will be vocal proponent of Medicare for All, a single-payer healthcare system that would provide comprehensive coverage, including long-term care, to all Americans. I believe that Medicare for All would help address the rising costs of long-term care and ensure that everyone has access to the care they need as they age. This includes Dental, Vision, and Hearing.
  4. Supporting family caregivers: I cannot emphasize enough the importance of supporting family caregivers who provide vital care for their loved ones. I will propose measures to provide financial assistance, respite care, and other forms of support to family caregivers.
